Hello to all.
My wife and me are relatively young adoptive parents. We adopted our lovely daughter, Jaimie, some 9 months ago and have since had the most blissful 9 months of our married lives with this new member to the family.
When we made the decision to adopt, it was the beginning of a long journey of planning, exploration, discussions, research and preparations. While the staff at Feiyue and MCYS had been most helpful during that period, we couldn't help notice that there isn't any open resource channel, or platform for prospective adoptive parents to learn from those who have made the journey before them. Likewise, there wasn't any readily available websites for adoptive parents in Singapore for sharing of opinioins, tips and advice, ask questions, or simply chit chat with others in the same community. This is quite surprising to us, especially since we have come to understand that there are approximately 700+ cases of adoption in Singapore each year. This works out to 2 adoptions every day. The community of adoptive parents in Singapore is actually not that small after all.
Sure, there are emailing lists that adoptive parents here can join, but most members end up passively receiving articles on a monthly basis and such emailing lists do not give the opportunity of interaction between members of the community.
It is precisely the urge to share with, and the desire to learn from other adoptive parents here in Singapore that my wife and I decided to set up this simple forum. We are not sure if there would be many adoptive parents are like us, who during day to day interactions, feel no need to conceal the fact that we are adoptive parents. We are also uncertain as to whether the majority of adoptive parents here have like us, decided from day one, on the course of disclosure for our child. If you too are like-minded in this aspects, and bear an open-minded view about adoption, we warmly welcome you to join us in this community, to contribute to this forum, and to share your experiences in the journey of adoptive parenthood.
Cheers!
